American Fisheries Calls for Immediate Breach

Dams once thought to be environmental choice for energy harm ecosystems.

AFS Urges Removal of Lower Snake River Dams to House Committee.

In their December 2023 letter to the House Committee, the American Fisheries Society (AFS) has stepped forward, advocating for a robust plan to revive the declining salmon and native fish populations in the Columbia River basin. Representing a coalition of over 7,000 professional fishery scientists and resource managers worldwide, the AFS has underscored the critical need for immediate action to address the perilous state of wild Snake River salmon and steelhead populations.

The central contention put forth by the AFS is the imperative nature of removing the lower four Snake River dams to facilitate the restoration of these endangered fish species. Citing a wealth of scientific evidence, the society asserts that dam removal is a crucial step towards ensuring the survival and recovery of at-risk wild salmon and steelhead populations.

Their letter also highlights the reasons why Hydropower cannot be considered green energy.
